ZANAGA IRON

Resource, performance
and value

The Zanaga Project is located in the southwest of the Republic of Congo, close to the border with Gabon and approximately 300 kilometres northeast of the port city of Pointe Noire and 250 kilometres northwest of the capital Brazzaville.

Zanaga Project’s ability to produce an enhanced specification to meet the growing sector of low-emission DRI, a key step in producing green steel, is a significant achievement and drives a considerable positive re-rating of the Project’s valuation.

The global DRI market’s supply from mine assets is expected to decline markedly in the coming years, forcing iron and steel makers to invest in downstream upgrading infrastructure; Zanaga Project’s ability to support this premium market from source is viewed as a lucrative opportunity.

Martin Knauth
Chief Executive Officer

The Zanaga Project is planned to be a large-scale iron ore operation which is capable of producing 30Mtpa of high-grade iron ore concentrate over a 30-year life of mine, with development proposed in two stages.

  • Icon Belt 1

    Stage 1

    12Mtpa of pellet feed

  • Icon Belt 2

    Stage 2

18Mtpa expansion to 30Mtpa of pellet feed

The Zanaga Project’s ability to produce Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) specification pellet feed concentrate with low impurities, required by Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel producers as they transition to a lower carbon model, represents a significant opportunity.

The growing requirement for this premium product strategically positions the project to support the evolving global iron ore market.

Location and overview of logistics routes

The 30Mtpa project involves building mine, processing, and operational facilities at the Zanaga site, with a buried pipeline and concentrate handling at Pointe Indienne.

The logistics corridor runs through regional locations, connecting the mine to the Pointe Indienne SEZ, who in partnership with Zanaga Iron, are developing a minerals export facility.
