Zanaga Iron and MPD Congo hold a series of positive stakeholder consultations in Republic of Congo
Zanaga Iron Ore Company and its subsidiary MPD Congo are dedicated to conducting their operations with social responsibility and transparency.
We acknowledge that our licence to operate entails responsibilities towards our communities, including our capacity to attract and retain skilled personnel, and our ability to develop and sustain positive stakeholder relationships, all of which are fundamentally connected to our business practices.
By maintaining open, ongoing dialogue, we aim to foster trust, ensure transparency, and align our operations with responsible, sustainable practices.
Ahead of the Environmental Impact Notice related to the preparatory activities scheduled until 2026, MPD Congo held a series of consultations with elected officials and community representatives to present and discuss the Company’s development plans.
These consultations were conducted by Martin Knauth, the General Manager of MPD Congo and the Chief Executive Officer of ZIOC, in collaboration with Florent Lager, the Deputy General Manager of MPD Congo.
The initial session was conducted in the town of Sibiti in the Republic of Congo under the auspices of the Prefect of Lekoumou, with the attendance of departmental directors and sub-prefects from the districts of Komono, Bambama, and Zanaga. A subsequent consultation was convened at MPD’s Moukouma Camp, aggregating the eight village chiefs from the project region, along with invited representatives of women, youth, elders, traditional landowners, and MPD personnel.
Discussions primarily centred on health and education, two sectors in which MPD Congo has been consistently offering support since 2010. This encompasses the provision of equipment and sustained assistance to the Lefoutou Health Centre, as well as various educational initiatives, including school rehabilitation programmes, support for educators and pupils, and capacity-building activities for local communities.
Participants also raised questions related to employment opportunities, training needs, and the potential impacts of the project on living conditions. These exchanges reflect the Company’s ongoing commitment to inclusive dialogue, social responsibility, and the long-term well-being of the communities living in the Project area.
